FAQs

What does it mean to be in a card break?

When you buy into a break, you are essentially buying a portion of the box, boxes, or case of cards that make up that break. This portion can be in the form of a team, division, player, or serial number(s). For example, if you have the Lakers in a basketball break, every card featuring a player on the Lakers for that given year is yours!

What types of breaks do you have at HitCard?

We currently offer predominately Random Team breaks. For every break, you can buy a spot for a team or multiple spots for multiple teams. Before the live break begins, we will randomly assign each spot to a team using a randomizer.

We believe Random Team Breaks offer the best chance at landing a big card from a big team at the most affordable price.

What are Fillers? Do you do that at HitCard?

Fillers refers to all of the alternative ways of filling a break rather than someone purchasing a spot in that break directly. Fillers can be used to fill a break in store, but they can also be used in real time, like on YouTube or Breakers.tv. For example, let’s say there is a 19-20 Panini Spectra basketball break with 30 random team spots. 20 spots are bought in store. Rather than waiting for those remaining 10 spots to be purchased in store, we could run a filler on our channel for those watching live. The filler could be that each person who buys a spot will receive one of the unpurchased teams, plus a chance at winning a spot in a future break. Using the previous example again, a second type of filler would be to

Fillers are naturally good for filling breaks more quickly than they would otherwise, plus they introduce potential bonuses and other special deals. As HitCard grows, this may be something we introduce, but right now ALL OF OUR BREAKS ARE SCHEDULED AND COMPLETELY SOLD IN STORE.

I bought a spot in a break ages ago. Why hasn’t it happened yet?!

Ahh, we know and empathize with the feeling! The simple answer is because the break hasn’t filled yet. In order for the break to happen, all spots need to be taken. Some breaks fill with a snap of the finger, while others take their sweet time.

HitCard does not currently do fillers, so all spots in a break must fill in store. This may change in due time, but that’s how we roll at the moment. The good news in buying a spot in a break and then waiting is that you lock in the price (which is constantly rising in today’s climate) and you will get a nice surprise down the line when the break goes live. We know you’re busy and don’t have time to watch a YouTube channel for hours every night. Also, you’ll get an email notification when your break fills, along with the day and time of the break.

I didn’t hit a single card in my break. That’s some BS. What’s up with that?

We agree, it’s definitely some BS, but every time you break (unless you buy every single spot), you’re taking a risk. There will be times when that risk pays off nicely and other times when you come home empty-handed.

It’s frustrating for sure, but it’s also part of the game. Every time you blank on a break, try to remember that dope feeling of hitting a huge card!

Ok, you pulled me a sick card. How and when do I get it?

Every card - from Zion Williamson to Wion Zilliamson - will find its way into a penny sleeve. All rookie cards and top veterans will be put into a top loader, and the cream of the crop hits will get a one touch case. Who actually qualifies as a cream of the crop hit is at our discretion.

After the break, we package all cards safely and securely with bubble wrap. ALL CARDS SHIP!

There is FREE SHIPPING for all customers living in the Continental U.S. and Canada, and a $10 flat charge for those of you living elsewhere. Your cards will be in the mail within 5-7 days of the break.

We ship everything USPS Priority Mail or First Class Mail. Priority Mail includes up to $50 of protection for your cards, but if you want more insurance, you can purchase increasing amounts of coverage from our store.

How is HitCard different than all the other breakers out there?

In many ways, we’re not so different. We put together combinations of cards that we think you want to break, you buy spots in those breaks, and voila.

In fact, we hope that you eventually consider us in the same vein as some of those other breakers - who we credit for getting us in the game in the first place.

As far as being different, our origins are not in the trading card or collectibles business. Rather, we’re bringing you this platform as fans first, card breakers second. We think this has a couple of important implications.

One, we know a ton about sports (specifically basketball) and can talk for days about the players whose cards we pull, their upside (or downside), player comparisons, expected value moving forward, and more. We hope that HitCard is not only a place to break cards, but a place to learn and talk more about the athletes and teams we break so that we can make better investments moving forward.

Two, we want HitCard to be the most open-minded, non-judgmental space for all people, whether they’re breaking for the first time or the thousandth time. Also, we definitely don’t pretend to know everything about anything, especially the card business. Therefore, we want our forum to be a place for learning, suggesting, advice-giving, and most of all, respect and support for all of our breakers!
